Aveeno® Ultra-Calming®

This post was sponsored by AVEENO® as part of a sampling activation for Crowdtap. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review. I received both the Nourishing Night Cream and the Makeup Removing Wipes.

My face is brighter & more hydrated in the morning!

The Aveeno Ultra-Calming Nourishing Night Cream was a complete dream! I haven’t had the best experience with Aveeno in the past and was nervous for this sample, but hey! They sent this for me to try and review. First, it’s wonderfully thick, I love a great consistency in my night creams so it feels like a restorative mask. It doesn’t have a scent to me or it’s very faint because it’s “gentle scent,” it smells like oats. I’m not a huge fan of that, but I get the concept is to make this for all skin types. The Feverfew formula has captivated me and made me believe in the product.

It absolutely does what it says, I swear anything I had that irritated my skin in the day and produced redness is immediately soothed with this cream. It brightens my skin and evens my tone to my best shade. I didn’t realize it had tone-correcting, but the ability to sooth is like a built-in tone booster! I’ve been using for a week, it hasn’t caused any problems. It has actually helped my skin rejuvenate, hydrate, and stay moisturized (almost too much). Who am I kidding? Moisturizer is the best for this time and being over-moisturized is never a problem! This would be a perfect gift for anyone and it’s great if you want to start your skin regimen over. It’s helped to clear out my skin and make sure it’s pampered for whatever I do to my face! I love it and will continue to use it as a tried-and-true formula.

I wasn’t as thrilled with the Aveeno Ultra-Calming Makeup Removal Wipes. These have a distinct scent, which isn’t unpleasant, but it’s piercing. These are somewhat slimy, I’m guessing from the oil to make it easier to remove make up; however, I didn’t find that they removed the makeup as well as I would have hoped. I still had to wash off my eye make up and my skin because I didn’t like the residue feeling it left.

I thought I would take these in my travel bag, but I would prefer to wash my face over using these wipes, if possible. I don’t feel as though it would be comfortable on my eyes after a while because as I tried to remove makeup from my eyes, it was difficult so I applied more pressure which cause irritation to my eyes.

av7 It takes off the makeup well, but I still feel as though my pores were needing a more thorough cleaning. The moisturizer in these didn’t seem bad, it seemed to overpower everything else. I’m okay with a harsher make up removal agents, so I figured these wipes aren’t for me. These are for people who wear lighter makeup like only BB creams and no powders.

Overall, I think this line is amazing as I’ve said before. It’s superb for those with tough skin issues. I’m going to investigate their eczema line because I feel it might genuinely help my newly-found skin problem. I would suggest the night cream for everyone and the makeup wipes for those who want wipes and can’t find a wipe that’s gentle enough for them.

Garnier SkinActive Miracle Anti-Fatigue

This post was sponsored by Garnier SkinActive as part of a sampling activation for Crowdtap. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.

Garnier’s SkinActive line continues to excite me! The Ultra-Lift Miracle Wake-Up Anti-Fatigue Day Cream is quite wordy, but it can be with how amazing it is! This is a very lightweight, translucent cream that smells INCREDIBLE (the wildberry extract cannot be beat). It feels like you’re applying water to your skin, it absorbs quickly and hydrates even the finest lines.

Getting my day started!

I absolutely love it to wear alone or under makeup. I haven’t experienced any clogged pores from using it and I have combination skin with most of my oil concentrated on my forehead. I have used it for about a week straight and it’s already brightened my skin. The package indicates that you need to use it for 7 days to see how it “improves signs of fatigue and re-activates skin’s radiance for a healthy glow.” I have definitely seen a difference and I coat my face in makeup every single day, so that’s saying something. I highly recommend for those looking for a lightweight moisturizer, generally. The bonus comes in as you use it consistently!

The Garnier Ultra-Lift Miracle Sleeping Night Cream [Ulta.com link because they have a Buy One, Get One 50% off sale on the line right now!] is light and refreshing as well; however, it is a slightly thicker cream. It feels like you’re applying water to your skin still like the other products from the line, but it’s a bit thicker, which I prefer in a night cream.

Sleepily applying the the night cream & the eye cream!

The night cream acts as a light, recharging mask. It reduces signs of dull, dry, and tired looking skin by leaving a protective barrier on the skin after your nightly wash. My favorite part is that it’s infused with Lavender Essential Oil, Rare Plant Extracts & Adenosine because these are very light, but also induce a calming sensation. At night it helps to regenerate skin cells and leave skin looking firmer, younger, and rested! My skin feels softer, smoother, and looks more revitalized.

Let me know if you’d like to try! I have copious samples with coupons!

Lastly, the Garnier Miracle Anti-Fatigue Eye Gel Cream was a cherry on top of the sundae! This one has a bit different of a feel for me compared to other creams, but I liked it. It was very gel-like and not water-like, it took a while to absorb for me, but I noticed that it went to work immediately. My eyes were cooled, refreshed, and it hydrated all the little cracks and crevices around my laugh lines (aka “Crow’s Feet”). It’s lightened the dark circles under my eyes and helps to eliminate the inflammatory puffing that happens when I coat my days in coffee. The main reason I liked this cream is because it didn’t bother my eyes whatsoever. I wear contacts and have a naturally dry eye, so most creams really agitate them, but this one felt like water and actually helped to relieve them.

I recommend the whole line and in the order I presented. I am very happy with the results as you can tell below, it’s worked out amazingly well for my 25.5-year-old skin!

Garnier Clearly Brighter Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer

I received complimentary samples from Garnier through Crowdtap to share and review honestly.

I cannot say how much I love this lotion! It’s practically grease-less which is a big deal for an SPF daily moisturizer! It packs 15 SPF and I couldn’t enjoy the extra benefits of this lotion more. It’s amazing at protecting your skin. It doesn’t bother my eyes with the sunscreen used which is a big deal for me. I used Olay’s daily SPF moisturizer, but it killed my eyes with burning and made my contacts so dirty.

garn1 It came in these tiny sample bottles, but it was perfect to share and pack on-the-go.

The extra great benefits of this moisturizer are that it literally clears, smoothes, and brightens!

According to www.garnierusa.com, it is “Designed with our Antioxidant Complex of Vitamin C & E, Pine Bark Essence, and gentle exfoliating Lipo-Hydroxyl Acid (LHA), this fast absorbing, non-greasy formula turns dull, rough skin into smooth, polished-looking skin with a more radiant, even tone.”

It dramatically brightened my skin in the 7 day challenge. I love using this because it keeps making my skin healthier and keeps me protected.

I have combination skin with a heavily oily T-zone. It works great and protects me on gloomy days very well. It’s even great under makeup, as you can see below!

Garnier SkinActive Party!

I was sent a Garnier SkinActive Party pack free from Crowdtap in order to review honestly and share with whomever I choose for participating in the Garnier crowd.

My party trying their Garnier gear!

Makeup removed in a single swoop with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water!

I was sent a box of wonderful goodies including:

  • $10 Visa giftcard for supplies
  • 11 Product Info Cards
  • 1 Pack of QUALITY cotton swabs
  • 11 samples of Garnier Clearly Brighter Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer SPF 15
  • 8 samples of Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (Regular)
  • 2 samples of Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (Waterproof)

Box packed with quality items!

I was so excited to host my party with my sisters who range in age from mid-30s to young-20s. We all have different skin types from dry, oily, combo, t-zone troubles, hormonal imbalances, etc, so it’s rare to find items that work for all of us…. HOWEVER, both the moisturizer and cleanser worked amazingly for all of us with no irritation!

The Garnier Micellar Cleansing water is extremely different! It requires no rinse and it takes off make up with one swoop of the cotton pad. It moisturizes and doesn’t clog my pores. It brightens my skin and makes it feel supple and brighter. The Waterproof version is a bit more oily in my opinion and my younger sister’s, but my older sisters thought it was perfect for their stubborn eyeliner and mascara.

My party trying their Garnier gear!

The Micellar Cleansing Water attracts dirt and grime from even caked-on makeup from the day before. It swipes it away and leaves your skin fresh, clean, and hydrated! It’s amazing and doesn’t need to be rinsed, as I discussed, so it’s great as a travel companion. It is comparable to luxury brands and at amazing value! Garnier amazes me with their new products at affordable prices. I never really tried them before, but thanks to Crowdtap, I’ve become a lover of the brand!

Wowed by the Micellar Cleansing Water!

Next, we tried the Garnier Clearly Brighter Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer SPF 15, which is quite a mouthful, but it’s a bargain-ful as well! I usually don’t like SPF moisturizers due to the chemical scent and propensity to bother my eyes. However, this one absorbs so quickly that I didn’t notice a scent and it didn’t seep near my eye area whatsoever. It made my skin feel good and one of my resolutions was to take better care of my skin by protecting from the sun. My sister-in-law especially loved it because she travels to California frequently for business and was looking for an easy SPF moisturizer that had added benefits, Garnier foot the bill! garn6

Garnier even gained a smaller fan 😀

Overall, all of us were pleased with both Garnier products. We found no pitfalls or disappointments, the products exceeded expectations and we will be trying more Garnier products in the new year!

What’s a good party? Coffee, Garnier, & sisters 🙂

Silk’n VoxBox from Influenster

I was chosen to receive a complimentary Silk’n Flash&Go Express through Influenster for testing purposes. All thoughts expressed in this blog are honest and my own.

Unveiling the Silk’n VoxBox

I was so excited when I was chosen for the #SilknSmooth VoxBox. If you follow my YouTube, you can see that I have battled hirsutism for quite some time now. My grandmother was fresh off the boat, Eastern European genes, so hirsutism is genetic and the only option was to have laser/cosmetic hair removal since I have already turned down the steroids used to treat my adrenal glands. I filled out the questionnaire and matched the candidate they were hoping would test this product.

silk3Immediately, I began to investigate what this product was. I saw tons of positive reviews from all kinds of people using it for different reasons. It’s a safe, FDA-approved hair removal laser that you can use at home. It can be used anywhere on the body. It has a very small window for precautions, but with enough time, it will dramatically reduce or eliminate hair growth in the areas you target.

To start, I worked on what’s been the most bothersome for me: my chin. silk1

I jumped on the chance to get rid of any hair. I have been using it for about 2 months now and I’m seeing some results, it’s not completely eliminating, but it has made it less coarse and it seems to be reducing its visibility. I have tried it on my belly and lower extremities, but plan to give more attention and careful treatment after I see great results with my face. I have to say I thought that I would start seeing more by now, but I think I haven’t been using it as much as I should.

The directions state that you must use it on the lowest setting for the first few times and gradually work up to level 5 it has. I did as it suggested and I have been doing it once a week since they said do not do it more than that. Some Youtubers were doing it every other day, which I’m not sure if that’s what’s recommended for thick, coarse hair, but I may boost my treatment times to see better results.

silk3 It’s been extremely easy to use and I use it right after my shower at night so I don’t have any adverse reactions that I may have to deal with. It doesn’t hurt at all and it takes me about 30 second to treat my whole area because you are not supposed to “overlap.” You need to have clean, dry, freshly shaven skin so that the laser can operate optimally. It aims to burn/zap the hair follicle and it’s attracted to the melanin that’s in the dark hair. With 5 levels, it’s still not near what you’d get in a salon because they need to keep this safe and for anyone to use, so you shouldn’t have any worries of burning yourself unless you are holding the lamp right next to your skin and doing “pulsing” treatment, I typically just do the linear treatment and don’t “glide” along my face and keep zapping. It’s easier for me.

I have been updating my Youtube with my treatment/review sessions every other week or so. I also posted a short video on my Instagram. I’m very pleased with the product and hope to get even better results soon. Instagram Review

Aveeno® Ultra Calming® Nourishing Night Cream

I received complimentary samples of Aveeno Ultra Calming Nourishing Night Cream from Crowdtap in order to test and review honestly.

I have never used Aveeno before this and was quite surprised at the entire sample I used.

Refreshed morning!

Refreshed morning!

It feels amazing to wake up with. I applied after my shower at night and it has a very thick consistency. I loved that it was thick and immediately started absorbing so I didn’t have to worry about it getting on my pillow.

Quickly absorbs

Quickly absorbs!

The sampled lasted me about 5 nights, actually despite how small it is, the consistency is supreme as I said. It made my dark spots lighten a bit and moisturized my face so well that fine lines were minimized.

It made me feel hydrated and healthy, I immediately investigated who it was made by. I found out Johnson and Johnson brands Aveeno and couldn’t be happier. It really takes my skin back to a younger time in my life.

I found that the scent is awful to me. It smells like an old swamp leaf, luckily it absorbs so quickly that I didn’t have to smell this for long because it doesn’t last. However, I would prefer a mild scent like their Gentle Scent line inside of this night cream to soothe you to sleep.

Also, I haven’t used it long enough to notice if it’s actually causing me to have more breakouts. I noticed a few zits pop up after starting this cream when I wake up in the morning which means that something is a bit too thick for my pores.

Overall, it’s a great night cream at a great value. It didn’t both my combination skin that dramatically and the zits I had appeared on top of my cheek and under my eye brow. It actually helped soothe red/dark spots. I would recommend it to those with oily skin compared to dry skin as it seemed to affect my dry patches negatively.

March BirchBox

I have a best friend who can afford BirchBox and actually loves it.

On the line to update the blog :)

On the line to update the blog 🙂

We get to update each other via Skype monthly on the wonderful goodies and we try to get my little sister on the line to compare. We’ll do a later edition of the Tay box.

The 5 Items, behold:

The 5 Items, behold:

Super pumped to open the box and the first item we pulled out was the Temple Spa “Peace Be Still” aromatherapy lotion. As you can see, it claims a lot to pack in an aromatherapy lotion/cream. We tried it on our hands and the scent is the real hit. The cream part is a big miss! It’s basically water and does nothing to moisturize. The scent is awesome, smelling citrus-y and lavender mixed together. I would bet this would be better as a bath bomb.

Long hairs, don't cares.

Long hairs, don’t cares.

Next, we tried the Beauty Protector – Protect & Detangle spray. She colors her hair often and she said this product was amazing all around. The only problem was that she didn’t have more! It keeps hair moisturized all day without harming color-treated strands. It smells like a floral type of vanilla, really warm, and protecting, essentially. It also goes a long way in keeping it detangled without the greasy mess of most sprays that have this benefit.

For the face, they included Vasanti “BrightenUp”. She said she felt as though her face just walked out of its own shower. A little goes a long way as it’s an amazing exfoliate properties make you soft as baby butt. To get the effects of microderm abrasion without spending huge bucks, this is the go-to.  She said she would actually go ahead and buy this full product because it’s that amazing. The Amazon reviews speak for themselves as I haven’t come across a face wash this highly rated EVER.

After the face wash, makeup! We got the Jelly Pong Pong “Glow Getter” (keep your eyes out for it! It’s being made since it’s out of stock – that popular!) It’s basically a gel that highlights cheekbones, bridge of your nose, eyebrow bone, top lip (to make your lips fuller), all around highlighter that replaces the regular old powder. It blends much better with foundation and blush as powder usually covers these up. She said it’s her first gel highlight and she doesn’t think she’ll ever go back to powder again. It’s the item I really wanted. A bonus is that she has normal skin and it’s extremely lightweight, didn’t leave her oily or dry. It’s very similar to the Benefit High Beam highlighter, but less expensive for a full bottle.

Tiny bottle goes a long way!

Tiny bottle goes a long way!

Lastly, they included a new perfume! It’s Harvey Prince’s “Hello”. She couldn’t describe it, but it’s SMELLS AMAZING. Big bonus as Amazon describes: Made with eco-friendly ingredients, this scent has all-day staying power. A top note of Meyer lemon captures the scent of fresh-squeezed lemonade, while Satsuma mandarin adds a double fruity note. Next up, summer forsythia and pink plumeria-traditionally found in Hawaiian leis-give the scent its heady floral layer. I am pumped to try this out ASAP. She did say that it doesn’t last all day for her, she lives in AZ, so the hot weather may play a role, but it’s worth the spritz. She’d definitely buy the bottle  as it’s very original. It’s the same price as a Victoria Secret perfume, but far more original.

So cute!

So cute!

Overall, we’d give it a 7/10.

When you sign up for BirchBox, they give you a quiz to see your interests and who you are (colored hair, makeup or skin care, etc). She feels they really listened to this as you can see, I would have gotten a completely different set as I don’t color my hair and I LOVE makeup. I might sign up. She said she usually buys 2/5 items which is better than many boxes out there.

You can follow her on Twitter @katejdixon. BFF since 2007. Womb to tomb.

If any of you got a BirchBox, let us know what you thought or what was different! Looking forward to updating these monthly.
